Advocacy

I passionately advocate for diversity and inclusion that recognizes the individual differences of neurodivergent individuals.

I Advocate For

#1

Increasing Diversity
in Research

#2

Promoting Participatory Research

#3

Fostering Inclusive
Dialogue

I played an important role in recruiting participants for an ongoing RCT by leveraging my creativity, problem-solving, and social media marketing skills. Collaborating closely with an undergraduate mentee, we co-authored multiple projects focusing on ways to tweak recruitment and reach diverse participants. In Fall 2023, I introduced a strategy that specifically targeted diverse demographics, resulting in a 200-300% increase in the number of diverse screeners within a short
2-week period.

Recognizing the unique strengths of neurodivergent individuals, I'm integrating my research interests (preventing substance use/co-occurring disorders, graduate well-being, DEI goals, and student retention) to develop a study design. Inspired by the social model of neurodivergence, we hope that this research helps shift the focus from deficits to abilities, potentially uncovering strengths overlooked in academia.

I recognize the importance of understanding how various identities intersect and contribute to a more holistic, multidimensional approach to diversity. I have helped initiated conversations among academics to explore these complexities in order to behin creating a more inclusive research environment FOR ALL.
